Edge Expeditions provides film and TV fixing services in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and across Central Asia.
We know the locations. We know the culture. We know where to find specialist knowledge. We know how to obtain those hard-to-get film and journalist permits. We can handle the logistics for you, from pitch to broadcast.
And we can help you get under the skin of these fascinating countries, to find those intriguing stories that haven’t been covered before. This is what we love about travel, and we’d like to share our passion with you.
We run a travel business whose expeditions criss-cross this region. We travel here on recce trips in our own time to seek new and interesting routes. If you are looking for locations then we can help, and we guarantee they won’t be the same old places that you’ve seen on screen before.
From glaciers and snow-capped giants to the buff plains, lush forests and roaring rivers, we know this part of the world. Let us help you to show it to your viewers.
We’ve developed a network of partners who can help us locate natural history for your project. Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan in particular have a huge variety of bird and mammal life in particular. Did you know that some of the strongest populations of snow leopard are to be found (with luck) in Tajikistan, or that wolves, bear, Marco Polo sheep, ibex and many other ungulates roam the high plateaux and mountain valleys. Whilst guaranteed sightings of any creature aren’t in anyone’s preserve, we do know where and how to make the best access.
We’ve got a network of great partners whom we know and trust, and can provide 4WD vehicles, crew vehicles, motorcycles, helicopters, catering and a range of on-set services to help make your project run smoothly. Of course, we can also make your accommodation bookings, flight schedules, detailed itineraries and route plans. This is what we do in our travel business so it is second nature to us.
If you are looking for translators, native language speakers or even local financial and legal services, we can help there too.
This is often seen as the unglamourous part the job and it certainly can take time and patience to organise. But we’ve been there and done the reseach for you. We know who to approach, how long it will take, how much it will cost and what the obstacles might be.
Perhaps your project only needs a simple film or journalism permit, or maybe it entails much more detailed planning. Either way, we can take the burden from you and get it organised as efficiently as possible. Special permits – for border areas, for example – can take longer, and in some countries drone pilots will need special permits and advice. Again, we know the drill and can dull the pain of having to do this yourselves.
Ants has been working in television since 2002 and has filmed in around forty countries, from the jungles of Borneo to the icy wastes of Siberia, as well as less glamorous locations such as the sewers of London. She produced three episodes of World’s Most Dangerous Roads for BBC2, in Vietnam, Laos, Bolivia and Georgia, and a two-hour series for ITV on the elephant and rhino poaching epidemic. The latter is called Poaching Wars with Tom Hardy (yes, the Tom Hardy) and was broadcast in August 2013.
Specialising in adventure travel, history and current affairs programmes, Ants’ years of experience of wrangling television in far flung places have left us with a very comprehensive set of international contacts and associates.
